Los Angeles, United States– Eric Dane, best known for his roles on television dramas including Grey’s Anatomy and Euphoria, has died at the age of 53 after a battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), his family confirmed Wednesday. Dane died on February 19 in Los Angeles, nearly a year after publicly revealing his diagnosis in April 2025.

Dane rose to international prominence portraying Dr. Mark Sloan on Grey’s Anatomy, a role he began in 2006 and which earned him widespread recognition. He later starred in TNT’s The Last Ship and more recently played Cal Jacobs on HBO’s Euphoria, a performance that introduced him to a new generation of viewers.

After announcing his ALS diagnosis, Dane spoke publicly about living with the progressive neurological disease, which affects nerve cells controlling voluntary muscles. He participated in advocacy discussions with organizations including I Am ALS, helping raise awareness about the condition and the need for research funding.

In one of his final filmed appearances, Dane recorded an interview for a documentary project distributed by Netflix, in which he reflected on his life and addressed his family. The project included personal messages to his two daughters.

Tributes from colleagues and fans followed news of his death. Among those remembering him was former co-star Patrick Dempsey, who shared condolences and described Dane as a dedicated actor and friend.
